Melissa Hawtin underlined her strong form by finishing ninth in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Cross Country Championships at Bodington Playing Fields, Leeds.

Competing for Birmingham University, the Oxford City athlete completed the 6.55km course in 26mins 17secs.

Hawtin, 19, impressed in a race won by former European under 20 champion Emelia Gorecka.

l STEVE Frear came third in the RAF Cross Country Championships at Halton.

The 34-year-old Woodstock Harrier, who is based at Benson, clocked 34.03.

l STEVE Naylor broke the course record on his Oxford Parkrun debut.

The 33-year-old, from Combe, completed the muddy multi-terrain 5km route in 16mins 9secs to set a new mark by one second.

Naylor (Bedford & County) battled with ex-record holder Ian Kimpton (Lincoln Wellington), who clocked 16.14.

THE Otmoor Challenge will take place on Saturday, June 1, organisers have confirmed.
