CHINNOR bounced back from two defeats to beat Lydney 29-17 at Kingsey Road.

The hosts started brightly with centre Sam Stoop hauled down just short after a mazy run.

Chinnor took the lead on five minutes, when scrum half Frank Jones nipped over for the opening try.

Left wing Tom Gray was bundled into touch as Chinnor kept pressing and they soon had try No 2.

The hosts turned over a Lydney scrum and a long looped pass found right wing Leo Fielding in space to score, full back Henry Colver converting.

Lydney hit back with a try from flanker Ben Taylor, converted by fly half Danny Trigg.

Chinnor lock Dave Hughes exploded off the back of a lineout 20m out to register their third try, converted by centre Mat Goode.

A Colver penalty put Chinnor 22-7 ahead the break.

Lydney came out powerfully in the second half, but could not add to their tally straight away.

Chinnor had fly half Will Millett yellow-carded on 48 minutes.

The visitors fielded a Chinnor clearance and set up left wing Alex Hall to ghost through for an easy try.

Chinnor secured a bonus point on the hour mark when slick handling involving Gray and replacement Adrian Hales allowed Stoop to go under the posts, Colver converting.

Three minutes from time, Lydney lock Charlie Daniel went over for a try for Lydney, but Chinnor had done enough.

They remain seventh, level on points with sixth-placed Launceston.

Henley Hawks had a week off, but saw their title hopes boosted by leaders Worthing’s 26-22 defeat at Redruth.
