BOXING: Usher sets sights on title fight in Oxford

Bicester welterweight Daza Usher is hoping to fight for a professional title in Oxford at the end of the year.

As revealed last year, Usher plans to work with Swindon boxing promoter and manager Keith Mayo to organise a show in the city.

“The last show in Oxford was 50 years ago,” said the 29-year-old. “At the end of the year I’d like to think we could do something there.

“My fans have to travel to watch me, so to have a show in Oxford would be great. “The amateur boxing scene in the city is good, but there’s nothing professional.”

Usher, who is unbeaten in four fights since turning professional, added: “By the end of the year I want to be looking at a title.

“I could well be fighting for one in Oxford, which would be a dream come true.

“Until then I must work hard in the gym, stay busy and keep winning.”

Usher’s next fight is at Swindon’s Oasis Leisure Centre on Saturday, March 9 against an opponent yet to be announced.

He added: “I’m ready to step up. I’ve only fought journeymen so far over four rounds, so I want to go to the next level.

“A six-rounder would be good next and I don’t want another journeyman. “I want someone who comes to fight, who wants to win.

“I’m a counter-puncher and prefer someone coming at me and letting fly.

“Either way, the important thing is to get another win under my belt.

“I’m in great shape and bang on the weight.”

Tickets for the Swindon show cost £35/£60.
