Martin Allen, from Cowley, enjoyed a cracking pike session on a local stillwater, catching specimens of 18lb 4oz and 23.3.0.
Both fish took freelined mackerel, injected with herring oil and red dye, and fished in ten feet of water at 30 yards’ range.
The first came at 10.30am and he also lost another later when it spat out the bait.
Allen was thinking of packing up when the 23-pounder (pictured above) sent him home with a smile on his face.
The 57-year-old is a member of the Oxon branch of the GB Pike Anglers Club and runs a local drinks wholesale company.
He only took up angling again three years ago after a break of 30 years when he got married. Allen remembers having to sell his gear to buy a washing machine at the time!
Now back fishing again, he will no doubt be hoping to improve his personal best pike of 27lb.
