Wayne Reddy kept his nerve in the final frame to give Witney E a thrilling 4-3 victory away to Riley A in the quarter-finals of the Gentworks Oxford & District League’s Simonds Cup.

Reddy went into the deciding frame against Riley’s Chris Stone, with Witney leading 3-2 and by 49 points on aggregate. In matches that finish 3-3, the extra point goes to the team with the highest points tally.

With just the pink and black on the table, Stone had clawed the overall deficit back to just ten points.

But Reddy secured his team’s victory by sinking a long pink.

Although he lost the frame 67-34, Witney went through by 16 points on aggregate.

In the last four, they are joined by Premier Division leaders Littlemore RBL C, who scraped through 4-3 away to Abingdon RBL.

Littlemore raced into a 3-0 lead, but the hosts stormed back to win the next three, although they fell short by 16 points on aggregate. Jason Buck’s 93-39 success proved decisive for Littlemore, Witney G and Abingdon Conservative A completed the semi-final line-up.

Cowley Conservative C caused an upset in the quarter-finals of the Sherlock Cup with a 4-2 win over their B team from a division higher.
