Didcot Conservative Club put up a gallant fight before going out on points aggregate to Vikings in Group A of the Johnstons Buildbase Oxford League’s Team Knockout Cup, writes PETE EWINS.
Trailing 4-1 from their away leg, they won the opening three games in the return through Stuart Florey (3,430), Jenny Florey (3,450) and Dennis Atkins (8,740), before Alan Oliver (6,140) made it 3-1.
Dave Tooke required 14,000 to put the Didcot side into the semi-final, but ran out of steam on 7,020.
It left the tie all-square at 5-5, but Vikings held the sway on points.
In the semi-finals, they will meet West Oxford Democrats, who beat Berinsfield 4-1 at home to win 7-3 on aggregate.
Terry Green (4,530), Eddie Tebby (3.890) and Richard Garrett (7,040) helped Democrats through.
Masons A completed the double over Gladiators A with a 3-2 away win to triumph 6-4 on aggregate.
Gladiators battled hard to pull it back to 4-4 with wins by Frank Cox (5,180) and Keith Gardner (13,470).
But Dave Rose (4,300) and Alan Lowe (4,640) took the next two to wrap up victory and clinch a last-four clash with Kennington Club.
Marlborough Club beat Masons B 5-0 in the Group B semi-final at Vikings Club.
Chris Bateman led the way with an excellent 10,550.
They now await the winners of Headington Conservative Club and Gladiators B.
Headington booked their last-four spot by beating Dolphin 3-2 away for a 6-4 aggregate success.
