RACING: Foster's in 16-1 surprise

West Ilsley trainer Mick Channon sent out Foster’s Road to spring a 16-1 surprise at Lingfield yesterday.

The four-year-old wore down Shernando close home to take a “jumpers’ bumper” by a neck under Stanford in the Vale jockey Will Kennedy.

Ransom Note, formerly a smart performer on the Flat, could finish only third.

Meanwhile, Paul Cole, who trains at Whatcombe, near Wantage, struck with Stormbound (2-1) at Wolverhampton.

The four-year-old got off the mark with a length victory over Pategonia under Raul De Silva in a maiden stakes over an extended mile.
