Frilford Heath turned back the clock 100 years for the lady captain’s annual drive-in.
Spectators watched in period costume to mark the first of a series of special events to commmerorate the centenary of ladies being formally admitted.
Many of Frilford’s 160 lady members saw Sue Russell raise a specially-made flag to mark the year, before she hit the traditional drive from the first tee on the Red Course.
The new captain has been a member since 1997 and comes from a golfing family in Scotland, who introduced her to the game at Turnberry 40 years ago.
Russell, who plays off 12, said: “I am proud to have been elected lady captain in our centenary year and am very excited about the year ahead.”
Her chosen charity is the Berks, Oxon & Bucks Air Ambulance.
Meanwhile, ROSY, which raises funds for sick and terminally ill children, benefitted by £9,000, the chosen charity of last year’s men’s and ladies’ captains, Chris Allen and Sara Alden.
