STEVEN Sheard was Kennington’s hero with victory in the decider to secure a 3-2 victory over Section 1 side West Oxford Democrats in the Johnsons Buildbase Oxford Lea-gue, writes PETE EWINS.
With the match all-square, Sheard racked up a 8,930 break to beat Billy Hill 9,060-4,470 to take the final point.
Terry Green (3,280-2,910) had put Democrats in front before Ian Gordon (9,060, break 8,930) and Mark Trafford (12,120) replied.
Richard Garrett beat Kevin Godfrey 5,740-4,050 to level it, but Sheard had the final say.
Vikings won 3-2 at Berinsfield thanks to Ian Moss (5,160), Alan Oliver (5,820) and Bob Allsworth (6,320).
Comrades Club were 3-2 victors at Masons B, with Adam Thorn (3,300), Simon Ellam and Chris Storch on target.
A first win of the season for Ernie Smith, who beat Luke Storch 5,180-2,170, and Chris Webb (14,080, break 12,000) provided Masons’ points.
Masons A won 4-1 against their B side and now lead Section 1 by one point. Alan Lowe top-scored with 10,150, including a break of 6,800.
In Section 2, second-placed Headington Conservative Club lost 3-2 at home to Marlborough Club.
Chris Bateman, Chris Iagoe and Arthur McIntyre triumphed for the visitors, with Tim Jeffreys and Keith Hollis on the mark for Headington.
