OXFORD University scrum half Stuart Commins has joined London Wasps until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old, who started in the Dark Blues’ Varsity Match victory over Cambridge, made 17 appearances for Northampton in 2010-11.

Commins joins as Wasps lose Joe Simpson to England Saxons duty and could make his debut against Leicester in the LV= Cup on Saturday.

“I really enjoyed my two years up at Northampton and I was really keen to get back involved with a Premiership side,” said Commins.

“Since then I have started a part-time degree in sustainable urban development at Oxford and loved playing in the Varsity Match, so when James Wade, our coach there, asked me to come down to Wasps I didn’t hesitate.”

He added: “It is just a matter of balancing my life a bit.

“There’s plenty of time to play rugby in my week, so it is a matter of getting my assignments in on time and so on.

“There are other boys here who are doing the same thing with their studies as well.

“My aim is to get as much game-time as possible here and maybe push for a longer contract, and I would love that to start this weekend up at Leicester.”
