Kassam Stadium pitch rated 6 out of 10

THE company in charge of maintenance at the Kassam Stadium have defended the quality of the pitch.

Some Oxford United players and officials were extremely critical of the playing surface in their 2-0 win over Accrington Stanley, which was three days after fellow tenants London Welsh rugby club took on Grenoble.

But Steven Moore does not share the football club’s worries.

The managing director of Sportsturf, who were brought in when the groundshare was confirmed this summer, is relatively content how the pitch is performing.

He said: “For a pitch that was only decided to be shared in July, after the point work could be done to prepare it for rugby, it’s done very well indeed.

“You’ve also got to consider we have had the wettest autumn on record.

“It’s not the best pitch in the division, but it’s not the worst either – if you asked me to give a mark out of ten, I’d give it a six.”

He's hardly likely to come out and say "the pitch is blooming awful and it's only fit for planting crops" is he.

To be fair, the company's hands were tied as they didn't have the time to do the prep work after last season had finished (as mentioned), sadly though the pitch will only get worse as they will be unable to do any major surgery on it until the summer and that's only if FK lets them...

It was quite wet but not the wettest autumn on record. It was the wettest autumn since 2000 in England but only the 9th wettest since 1910. Note that it was sunnier than average (the 8th sunniest autumn on record).

He gives it a six out of ten rating, fair enough i expect he's seen close up a few other pitches to judge it by.
For some reason i accept this more than yet another poor excuse for the low (Very low - i'd give them 2 out of ten) standard of 'Football' we have been subjected to on too many occasions.

There have been many many classic matches played under far worse conditions than the hallowed turf of the kassam stadium over the years, just get on with it, and stop the whinging wilder and Co.
