KIDLINGTON conceded a last-minute penalty to suffer an agonising 3-2 defeat away to Larkhall Athletic in the third round of the FA Carlsberg Vase on Saturday.
Keeper Matt Dixon got his hand to Simon Gilbert’s spot-kick, but could not prevent it from crossing the line.
Larkhall led 1-0 at half-time thanks to a great strike by Luke Clarke from the edge of the area. The Uhlsport Hellenic League visitors equalised four minutes after the break when leading scorer Ryan Curtin fired in a penalty, awarded for a foul on Danny Mason.
The match came to life in the final eight minutes. The Bath-based hosts regained the lead in the 88th minute when Nat Auckland scored following a corner.
However, the match wasn't over.
Five minutes into injury time, Kidlington were awarded a free-kick on half-way.
The ball was bombed into the visitors box, where Curtin smashed it home for 2-2. It looked like extra time, but there was one more twist with Larkhall’s winning penalty.
Ardley United were punished for defensive errors as they crashed 4-1 at home to Newport, Isle of Wight.
The visitors took the lead in the 16th minute when Ardley keeper Joe White dropped a corner at the far post and Joe Rayner netted from close range.
Alex Przespolewski added a second in the 26th minute, firing into an open goal, and the same player made it 3-0 on the hour-mark.
Iain Seabrook fed Tom Mcinnes to add Newport’s fourth goal in the 68th minute.
The Hellenic League hosts pu-lled back a goal through Ben Thomas in injury time.
