James Wade played down his own involvement in Oxford University's second-half comeback which brought them a 26-19 victory over Cambridge in the Varsity Match at Twickenham yesterday.
The Dark Blues head coach commented: “It wasn’t something I said. The performance was in them.
“They just hadn’t turned up in the first half and made too many mistakes.
“We outlined a few areas where we could improve and played all the emotional strings as well.
“To come back from this deficit was the sort of thing that would make it more special to win.”
Man-of-the-match Sam Egerton was lauded for his display, despite starting at full back rather than his preferred scrum half berth.
Egerton said: “I am more comfortable there, but it was all about doing what’s best for the team.
“Stu Commins is a better nine than me and it was only fair that he should start there.”
