Alan Green hit a hat-trick as Oxford City Stars bounced back to form with a 6-5 victory over Peterborough Islanders in their Cup clash.

Things looked bleak for Stars, however, when James Pentecost scored twice to put the visitors 2-0 ahead.

Green reduced the deficit before the end of the first period, and bagged his second of the game soon after the interval to make it 2-2.

Ross Macintosh’s breakaway goal restored Peterborough’s advantage, but hot-shot Green sealed a quickfire hat-trick to level the scores once again.

Oxford then took the lead for the first time when Darren Elliott scored at the end of the second period.

Joe Edwards made it 5-3, but Pentecost sealed his treble to keep Peterborough’s hopes alive.

Stars were then made to pay for a lack of discipline, five minor penalities allowing the visitors to take advantage and level the scores through Alex Whyte.

Despite this, Stars regained their composure and Michael Raff got the puck over to Edwards to fire home and seal the game for the hosts.

There were several altercations in the bench areas after the final whistle as Stars celebrated a superb victory.

The win keeps Stars third in their round-robin group, but closes the gap on second-placed Bracknell Hornets.
