Clevedon Tn 2

(Robbins 29, 90+3)

North Leigh 1

(Deabill 90+1)

North Leigh experienced injury-time heartbreak for the second time in two weeks as they slipped to defeat at Clevedon Town in Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West.

Mark Gee’s side conceded a goal deep into time added on to lose 2-1 at Wimborne Town a fortnight earlier.

And this time it was even worse as they looked to have snatched a point after substitute Jimmy Deabill had equalised a minute into injury time.

But two minutes later, referee Lewis Price harshly awarded a free-kick against North Leigh on the edge of their penalty area, and Aron Robbins, scorer of Clevedon’s first goal, squeezed it around the wall and past a devastated Sam Warrell in goal.

With the pitch reduced to a quagmire following heavy rain, Clevedon adapted better to the conditions, and Warrell palmed away early strikes from Dave Stone and Clayton Fortune.

John Mills and Ryan Brooks had efforts for North Leigh, but Clevedon took the lead on 29 minutes when Reeko Best crossed for Robbins to power home a header at the far post.

Stone, Best and Giani Kapika all went close for Clevedon in the second half.

But North Leigh rallied and equalised in injury time when Deabill latched on to a long ball, and his shot looped up off the keeper as he raced out of goal and into the net.

However, North Leigh’s joy proved short-lived as Robbins grabbed a controversial winner for Clevedon.
