Ryan Curtin was the star as Kidlington produced one of the upsets of the second round of the FA Carlsberg Vase when they triumphed 4-2 away to Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division leaders Marlow.

Curtin scored all four goals for Kidlington, who have been struggling at the wrong end of the table all season.

With Kidlington winger Tommy Castle posing problems, a brace from Curtin made it 2-0 at half-time.

And his 54th-minute penalty, after he himself had been fel-led, increased their advantage.

Marlow hit back with two goals in three minutes from Nathan Ashton (penalty) and Ian Davies to set up a tense finish.

They should have equalised when Kidlngton’s Liam Rice was harshly adjudged to have fouled Davies in the area.

Ashton blasted the resultant spot-kick down the middle only for visiting keeper Matt Dixon to save it with his size-12 boot.

Curtin’s fourth goal in the 83rd minute eventually sealed Kidlington’s place in today’s third-round draw.

Ardley United travelled to Sussex and beat Horsham YMCA 1-0 through a Jon Gardner goal in the 35th minute.

Thame United went down 3-2 at home to Lordswood, whose winning goal from came from a penalty ten minutes from time.

Earlier on, Dan West and Alex Stewart had scored for Thame.

Wantage Town travelled to Tunbridge Wells and lost 2-0.

Played on a heavy uneven surface, this closely-fought game was always going to favour the team scoring first.

The hosts did so in the 66th minute, when the imposing Tunbridge Wells centre forward Andy Irvine climbed to head a corner past Gareth Tucker in the Wantage goal.

Wantage were further undone in the final seconds when home substitute Carl Cornell had time and space to score.

Oxford City Nomads lost 3-0 at home to Peacehaven & Telscombe.
