FOOTBALL: Didcot caught at the death

Didcot Town’s habit of conceding late goals plagued them again as they were held to a 3-3 draw by hosts Cinderford in Evo-Stik Southern Division 1 South & West.

The Railwaymen, who were knocked out of the FA Carlsberg Trophy the previous week by Dorchester’s late winner, conceded the equaliser in stoppage time.

Even though Cinderford got off to a flying start, Didcot led 3-1 at the break, but could not finish the job in the second half.

Cinderford went ahead in the first minute when Scott Wilson took advantage of a fumble by keeper Marcos Pereira-Belloli to tap home.

But Didcot stormed back with Morgan Williams driving home the equaliser. Williams followed that up with a near identical second nine minutes later.

It looked all over when Didcot scored a third goal. James Clark and Pablo Haysham combined to set up Elliott Osborne-Ricketts who nodded in from close-range.

Didcot never got going in the second half and Cinderford’s giant striker Lewis Sommers reduced the deficit with a header.

It looked as if luck might be smiling on the visitors when Cinderford had a ‘goal’ disallowed for a push.

Maybe it was that decision that enticed the referee into awarding Cinderford a disputed penalty in stoppage time – Lance Williams adjudged to have felled Wilson in the box.

Wilson rifled home the penalty to snatch a draw.

Didcot: Pereira-Belloli, Elkins; Browne, Osborne-Ricketts, Thomas, Stanley, Heapy, L Williams, Clark, Haysham, M Williams (Janes 70). Subs not used: Tappin, Pereira.

Attendance: 162.
