Didcot Town’s hopes of pulling off a shock win ended in a controversial FA Carlsberg Trophy third qualifying-round defeat by Dorchester Town at the npower Loop Meadow Stadium on Saturday.

With the game poised at 1-1 going into injury-time, it looked as though the Railwaymen would hold on for a replay, before late drama saw them cruelly denied a deserved draw.

Didcot’s Morgan Williams was clearly brought down as he burst towards the Dorchester box.

However, referee Neil Radford infuriated the home supporters by waving play-on and the Magpies, who play in Blue Square Bet South, broke away.

They raced up the other end and forced a corner, which Didcot failed to clear allowing Dan Green to nod home from five yards and clinch a dramatic victory.

In an entertaining encounter, it was Gary Elkins’s Evo-Stik Southern League side who made the early running against their opponents, who last weekend knocked League Two side Plymouth out of the FA Cup.

And so it was no suprise when the hosts took a deserved lead late in the first half.

Pablo Haysham curled home a brilliant effort from 25 yards giving keeper Jason Matthews no chance on 42 minutes.

And it could have been even better for the Railwaymen a minute into the second half, but Matthews managed to tip James Clark’s volley over the bar.

Shortly afterwards, Dorchester’s new signing from Truro City, Green, fired home an equaliser from 12 yards for the first of his double.

Haysham was denied by Matthews, while at the other end, Jamie Gleeson’s goalbound effort for the visitors was blocked by Jamie Heapy before the late drama sent Didcot crashing to defeat.
