Two Banbury fencers won silver medals at the World Veterans Championships in Krems, Austria.

Janet Cooksey, 72 and Graham Paul, 65, both from Upton, claimed second places in their respective age groups.

Cooksey lost 10-6 to France’s Marie-Chantal Demaille in the over 70 women’s epee event, and went down 10-4 to the same opponent in the foil competition.

Paul, fresh from winning a bronze medal in the Commonwealth Veterans’ Championships in Singapore, lost 10-6 to Japan’s Kenichi Hinoshita in the over 60 men’s foil event.
