THE organiser of a charity walk for Oxford United supporters to Wycombe Wanderers last weekend has been thrilled with the response – but has no plans to repeat the 24-mile trip any time soon.

Almost £6,000 has been raised by a group of 28, including former United star Les Phillips, who made the trek from the Kassam Stadium to Adams Park in time to watch the 3-1 win last Saturday.

It is far higher than OxVox, United’s supporters trust, hoped and will be divided between the U’s youth and community trust and the Helen & Douglas House Hospice.

OxVox chairman Mark Sennett said: “I didn’t expect the total to get quite so high and I’m thrilled it has.

“I think it was all smiles until about the 16-mile mark, when it began to hurt.

“We’ll definitely do more to show our support for the trust, but I don’t think any of us would volunteer to do that again.”

Donations can still be made at www.justgiving.com/oxvox for another week.
