FOOTBALL: Hanney through after marathon shoot-out

There were thrills galore as Hanney United won their Berks & Bucks Junior Cup second-round tie at Blewbury after a marathon shoot-out.
Hanney eventually went through 10-9 on penalties after the North Berks League teams had drawn 4-4 after extra time Brendan Morris (2), Ryan Woods and Nathan Jaggard scored for Division 3 basement club Blewbury in the first two hours, only to see their goals cancelled out by a James Bishop hat-trick and a Neil Pimm effort for the Division 4 leaders.
Another Division 4 side, Warborough United, also took Division 2 opponents Steventon all the way to penalties following a 1-1 draw after extra time.
Nathan Heywood netted for Warborough, while Andy Cooper scored for Steventon who won the shoot-out 6-5.
Milton United Res drew 2-2 with Lambourn Sports Res before losing 5-4 in the shoot-out. Dan Osbourne and Jack Alder netted for Milton, but Lambourn’s Alex Toley and Damian Harris matched them.
Wantage Town A, from the North Berks League, edged into the third round by seeing off Hellenic League side Letcombe Res 2-1, thanks to goals from James Stevens and George Howard.
