A POPULAR former BBC Radio Oxford volunteer, who later became a stockbroker, has been found dead at the bottom of an eight-storey building in London.

Anjool Malde worked for the station at its Summertown studios between 2005 and 2006 during his time as a student at Oxford University.

He would have been 25 today.

The keen entrepreneur – who was also known as Jools – graduated from St Peter’s College with a degree in geography aged 20 and co-founded AlphaParties, which organised events for young professionals in London.

Mr Malde, who was originally from Yarm, near Middlesbrough, had worked as a stockbroker for Deutsche Bank since August 2005.

He left his office early on Friday afternoon, due to a pending inquiry on an “IT-related” issue but was due to return to work this week.

He died on Sunday in the shadow of the Coq d’Argent rooftop restaurant, which is close to the Bank of England in the City of London.

Police are investigating the incident, but his death is not being treated as suspicious.

A Deutsche Bank spokesman said: “We are deeply saddened by our colleague’s death and our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this time.”

Dr Ken Addison, a fellow in geography at the St Peter’s College, said: “Jools was an undergraduate of exceptional vitality and character, whose geography tutors had to work hard to stay up to date with the many, laudable, extra-mural activities which he always addressed with huge energy – and invariably ach-ieved with high merit.

“He lived life in the fast lane and seemed destined to develop a distinguished career in whatever he turned his hand to. This is very sad news indeed and our hearts go out to his family and friends.”

Mr Malde worked on the Download music programme for BBC Radio Oxford as a volunteer contributor – and interviewed celebrities like former Spice Girls singer Geri Halliwell.

He was active in the university’s two student newspapers – Cherwell and Oxford Student – had articles published in The Guardian and was a member of numerous university societies.

In an interview with the Beyond Oxbridge website, Mr Malde discussed combining his life as a stockbroker with running an events company. Asked what the future held, he said: “I’m always involved in side projects linked to finance, events, music and technology.

“With AlphaParties we’ve hosted nights for several charities, donating the proceeds, and an end-goal dream project would be related to philanthropy – perhaps setting up an education-based charity later in life.”

On his personal website, Mr Malde’s list of interests included spending time at his property in Marbella, Spain, playing musical instruments and photography.

A comment left on a Facebook memorial page to Mr Malde read: “Jools. You achieved so much in such a short period of time, a true inspiration to many who knew you and many more that didn’t.”

Another friend added: “You have done more already than I can dream of in my lifetime and you will live on in the achievements you have inspired and will continue to inspire in others.”
