Green cyclists took over parts of Oxford city centre to get their environmentally-friendly message across.

About 50 people turned out for an alleycat cycle ride — a treasure hunt on wheels — and were asked to solve 10 clues.

People donned green clothing and some painted their faces green for the theme of eco campaigning on Friday night.

Some of the tasks included writing a Valentine card to Oxford University’s Lord Chancellor calling for it to be more environmentally-friendly. And cyclists were asked to make a campaign banner.

Afterwards they met at South Oxford Community Centre and were rewarded with a green curry.

Organiser James Blair, an intern with charity People and Planet, said: “We had a fantastic time, everyone really enjoyed it. We had lots of people of all ages, from about 16 and the oldest was claiming their pension.”

The quickest team completed the treasure hunt in about 30 minutes.

The event raised about £200 for the charity.
