TWO west Oxfordshire schools have received glowing praise from education inspectorate Ofsted and the Prime Minister.

Witney secondary Wood Green School and Kingham Primary School, near Chipping Norton, were both described as outstanding by inspectors.

And PM and Witney MP David Cameron said he was delighted to hear the news.

He said: “This is a great achievement and testament to the hard work, dedication and commitment of the teachers and pupils at both schools.”

Ofsted said of Wood Green: “Leaders, managers, governors and staff have succeeded in embedding their positive vision for the school’s development, and this has led to consistently high outcomes for students in recent years.”

Headteacher Cynthia Savage said: “It’s an outstanding achievement by the students and the staff, and I couldn’t be more pleased that their hard work and achievement has been recognised in this way.”

The report gave some of its highest praise to the school’s sixth-form, describing the progress of its students as “outstanding” and students as role models.

Sixth-form student Rupert Welply said: “I’m proud to be at Wood Green, which has given me such fantastic opportunities and start in life.”

Fellow sixth-former Daniel Jackson said: “I became so much more confident through my time here.

“The help you get here helps you strive.”

The report said of Kingham: “Pupils’ attainment is high, their achievement is excellent and both have improved steadily year on year.”

It said pupil behaviour is “excellent” and pupils “love learning”.

It added: “Their consideration for other pupils’ feelings and their celebration for successes of other pupils in sports and school work are outstanding.”

Teaching and lessons were also highly praised, with the report saying: “The pace of lessons is fast, work is consistently challenging, extremely well-matched to pupils’ learning needs and based on accurate assessment of pupils’ progress.”

Assistant headteacher Vicki Stephens said the school was thrilled.

She said: “It’s absolutely fantastic to be recognised for all our hard work.”
