AN APOLOGY has been issued by Highways England after the spelling blunder it made on a sign directing drivers to 'Whitney'.
The new sign, directing drivers to Woodstock, Headington and Witney, was spotted yesterday by those heading along the A34.
The sign has now been removed, according to Highways England which controls the road, and an investigation launched into how it happened.
A spokesman said: "This is very clearly a mistake, and we have taken down the sign while we organise its correction.
"We are looking into how the incorrect spelling on the sign escaped our quality control checks.
"We are grateful to the eagle-eyed drivers on the A34 who pointed this out."
