A 94-YEAR-OLD woman became trapped in a Land Rover when it flipped onto its roof and landed in a ditch after skidding on ice.

Fire crews were called to the scene near Leafield in West Oxfordshire following the crash on Monday, and rescued her from the wreckage alongside paramedics.

South Central Ambulance Service spokesman David Gallagher crews were called at 1.49pm to find the car in a ditch.

The driver had managed to escape but the elderly woman, understood to be her mother, was stuck.

Mr Gallagher said: "She was conscious and breathing, informing people at the scene she was uninjured and just wanted help to get out."

The woman was released with firefighters' help and was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital for further assessment and treatment.

The crash has prompted a warning from firefighters over driving in icy conditions, which have seen several serious crashes on Oxfordshire's roads over the last week.

The officer in charge of the incident, Steve Riding, said: “This is a timely reminder that as the weather gets colder and the risk of snow and ice increases, driving conditions can be slippery.

"When the sun is lower in the sky the roads will become more dangerous – I advise all road users to take care when driving in these conditions."
