ON a day when many elite cyclists passed through Charlbury, up to 50 youngsters followed in their tracks in a tour of their own.

As part of a 'Ride and Stride' event, children sped through the town on their bikes to raise cash for Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust.

Basil Eastwood, chairman of the trust said the event was organised to coincide with the Tour of Britain on Saturday afternoon.

The youngsters set off from St Mary's Church in Church Street, and cycled in a circular route through the town.

He added: "It's not a race, they can do it in their own time and when they finished they got a chocolate egg and a bag.

"It's a one off thing but I suspect we might do it again next year."
