When Shukrananda Gant sat down to play a song in a cathedral she loves, she only expected her mother and family members to be her audience.

But without her knowing, mum Karen recorded a song she had written called In the Beginning, which went viral across social media.

Over the past three days, more than 16,000 people have viewed the performance from the 29-year-old freelance vocal teacher, who lives in Witney.

Ms Gant told the Oxford Mail: "It's just a thing I do when I'm home. I like to sneak into that part of the chapel and sing and play the piano.

"I told my mum not to video me, but she did and the response has been overwhelming.

"It's blown me away."

Ms Gant was filmed in Lincoln Cathedral on Boxing Day while she was home visiting family for Christmas.

The 29-year-old said she has written dozens of songs, but never really played or recorded them for people.

Mum, Ms Courtney, said: "We did not expect this, she didnt even know I had recorded it.

"16,000 views is pretty amazing and with no publicity at all.

"I just wanted to share the beauty in her voice."
