FOUR baby guinea pigs at a rehoming centre in Burford hope their cute new names will tempt Oxfordshire animal lovers to 'catch 'em all' this summer.

Blue Cross pet charity hope people will come forward to offer loving new homes to 11-day-old Pikachu, Pidgey, Snorlax and Wigglytuff, who are every bit as cute as their pocket monster namesakes

The foursome were born to mum Squirtle who arrived at the centre heavily pregnant.

She was put on ‘pregnancy watch’ and placed in a Blue Cross foster home so she could receive round the clock care until she gave birth on July 4.

Lydia Sawyer, animal welfare supervisor from Blue Cross Burford said: "The mum was already called Squirtle when she came into us and we thought it would be apt to name her pups after other Pokemon characters, especially considering the recent craze.

"We just hope people will make a Pokestop at our centre and give our lovely little pigs a home."

Pikachu, Pidgey, Snorlax and Wigglytuff are too young to leave their mum and will be ready for rehoming when they are six-weeks-old.

Once they are ready for rehoming, the guinea pigs will return to the Blue Cross rehoming centre to find new homes.

Blue Cross cared for 122 guinea pigs last year and currently has around 10 of the little animals looking for new homes.

Pokemon Go is a mobile game recently launched in the UK, which allows people to 'catch' animated monsters on their phone while wandering the streets.
