DIAMOND celebrations were held to mark the 60th anniversary of a Witney club that has worked tirelessly in fundraising for causes across the globe.

Witney Inner Wheel Club celebrated six decades of work with a lunch on June 15.

Members and honorary guests attended the party at Witney Lakes Resort to hear about the national, and international, work the club has been a part of.

The Inner Wheel Club is its own organisation and carries out similar projects and duties to the town's Rotary Club.

Club president Debi Diacon said: "Over our 60 years we have put fun into fundraising and tried to be mindful of our three official Inner Wheel objectives, which are to promote true friendship, to encourage the ideals of personal service, and to foster international understanding.

"Without doubt the event of this anniversary has provided the club with many happy memories that will be remembered in the months and years ahead, and it is hoped that Witney enjoys many more years of Inner Wheel."

Since 1956 the club has been helping others through fundraisers and charity projects, working closely with Witney Rotary Club.

As well as members of Witney Inner Wheel, the lunch was attended by Inner Wheel District 9 Chairman Pat Briggs who presented the club with a 60th Anniversary Charter Certificate.

Along with members from other clubs in the district, guests included chairman of West Oxfordshire District Council Councillor Norman MacRae, mayor of Witney Chris Holliday and mayoress Lisa Holliday.

The club also received well wishes from Rotary District 1090 Governor Fred Kind and Witney Rotary Club President Ashley Farmer.

Guest speaker Tim Walker, a lecturer in Botany at Somerville College in Oxford and former director of Oxford Botanical Garden delighted guests with an informative and entertaining talk on the healing power of plants.
