A grandad from Carterton secured a £100,000 win at his local bookies to start the new year- taking his total winnings to more than £300,000.

The lucky punter, who has asked not be named, won the prize after guessing four numbers correct in BetFred's daily 49's lottery game on Saturday.

The electrician has been a customer at the bookmakers in Brize Norton road for 17 years, and in the last three years he has picked up £320,000 betting on the same game.

For the 49's game, customers pick up to six numbers from 49 - similar to the National Lottery - and win up to £150,000 for guessing all six numbers correct.

The 49's game is run twice every day by BetFred branches.

According to the bookmakers the customer has always picked the same four numbers for the game - 10, 12, 17 and 19 - which are the dates on which his relatives are born.

Over the years he has won six times using the same numbers, picking up £20,000 twice, £40,000 twice and now £100,000 twice.

But far from splashing the cash around, the lucky grandfather said he has only spent big once so far - buying a luxury static caravan on the West Sussex coast.
