THE Prime Minister says he is looking forward to meeting a Witney couple today who want to highlight the work being done by people in Oxfordshire to help refugees.

Andy and Hannah Bailey will speak to their local MP and Prime Minister David Cameron to tell him about the county's response to the crisis.

The couple delivered a carload of aid to the Calais refugee camp in August.

The pair, both 25, say their aim is to make the national conversation a positive one.

Mr Cameron said: “It is an important meeting and I am very interested to hear their story and discuss what we, as a nation, are doing to help in this crisis.”

Mr Bailey, who works for Witney Christian aid charity Open Doors, said he wanted to thank the PM for increasing the county’s refugee quota to 20,000 in the next five years.

But he said: “Our key hope is that he realises his constituency – people in Witney, Charlbury, Eynsham – are actually very positive about helping refugees.

“The public mood has completely changed and people have realised this isn’t a migration crisis – it’s a humanitarian crisis.”
