A CHINESE chef who used to run a chain of restaurants but gave it up to run a sandwich shop in Witney is stepping back into the fray with a charity cook-off for 100 people.

Henry Mo, 57, who runs Sandwich De Witney in Market Square, will cook a Chinese buffet for 100 people at Witney Snooker Club on the Eagle Industrial Estate on Saturday.

The aim is to raise funds so Witney Community Hospital can buy a new community vehicle. A donation will also be given to Adventure Plus which runs adventure holidays for eight-to-12-year-olds in Witney.

Mr Mo said he was not daunted by the prospect of returning to the kitchen.

He said: “I often cook for quite a lot of people at Oxford Chinese Christian Church so I know what kind of dishes can easily be produced for a lot of people.”

Mr Mo has done similar events in the past, but this is the biggest yet.

The father-of-three, who moved to England from Hong Kong in 1970, said: “We’re looking forward to it because last time we did it we had lots of people who came along and enjoyed it.”

Staff and friends of Witney Community Hospital have started a fundraising campaign to buy a new hospital vehicle.

The current vehicle – which is specially adapted for disabled use – is 13 years old and in need of constant repair.

It is used to take patients to and from appointments and carry out home visits and delivery of equipment So far, £6,000 has been raised and a further £6,000 donated by patients towards a total of £40,000.

Tickets for the buffet are available from Sandwich De Witney or Witney Snooker Club at £10 each.
