Houses have been evacuated in Cogges Hill Road following a barbeque fire.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue was called to a house in the road just after 1pm today as the barbecue, which used a gas cylinder, was “completely engulfed” in flames.

Area manager Gabby Heycock said: “With any risk of explosion we have a practical way of dealing with and establishing a cordon. Once the cylinder is fully released we will be clearing the area to ensure it is safe.”

Two fire engines attended the fire as well as Thames Valley Police which closed off Cogges Hill Road, but there are reports it has now reopened.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
