FLOODING hit buildings in High Street, Witney, today.

Freelance photographer Mark Hemsworth said he saw two Thames Water trucks parked on High Street using hoses to clear drains at noon.

He said the Boots, Timpson and Co-op stores had been flooded.

Thames Water spokesman Sarah Sharpe said it may have been down to a sewerage problem, but an investigation was under way.

A member of staff at the Co-op in High Street confirmed the store had to close briefly to mop up water  trodden in from the street by customers, but has now re-opened.

A worker at Timpson, who did not wish to be named, said water started coming up from the ground to about one centimetre above the floor, but  the store was not forced to close.

The street flooded in May 2014 after drains could not cope after a sudden downpour. Sandbags were needed around High Street Methodist Church and shops closed.
