A BARN dance in Stonesfield raised more than £1,500 for a new roof at a disabled riding club.

More than 100 people attended the dance at the village hall in aid of New Yatt Riding for the Disabled on Saturday to celebrate the group’s 30th anniversary.

A raffle draw, with prizes including tickets to Ascot and the Olympia Christmas Show, raised funds needed to re-roof the stable block at the group's base in Wilcote Road, North Leigh.

Money raised and grants received from West Oxfordshire District Council, the Oxfordshire Community Foundation and North Leigh Parish Council means the roofing work can now be completed in the new year.

The group provide more than 1,100 horse rides for disabled children, teenagers and adults in West Oxfordshire each year.

The evening was organised by group volunteers who cooked a two course meal, ran the bar and sold tickets for the raffle.

Fundraising officer Kay Alty said: “It’s great that so many people got involved in making the barn dance such a successful and fun event. I want to thank all the businesses and individuals who have supported the Raise the Roof appeal.”
