A public inquiry into a decision to refuse plans for 127 homes in the village where ITV period drama Downton Abbey films outdoor scenes will begin on Tuesday.

West Oxfordshire District Council rejected a planning application by Gladman Homes to develop land in Aston Road in January.

The developer, which later had new plans for 116 homes on the same site turned down, appealed the decision and the final decision will be made by an independent planning inspector.

The inquiry, to be held at the council’s offices in Woodgreen, Witney, will begin at about 2pm and is expected to last six days.
