IT wasn’t so much Skyfall that was the problem for the driver of this 007-style Aston Martin DB5 as rainfall.

Nearly 15mm of rain fell at Brize Norton on Saturday night leaving a ditch in Claypit Lane, Longcot, filled with a deceptively deep pool of water, as these drivers discovered to their cost.

And when Christy Bate, 24, from Faringdon, returned from a visit to the Uffington White Horse at 10.30am, she turned the corner to find an iconic Aston Martin DB5 – the car famously driven by James Bond – stuck in the floods.

It was swiftly joined by a Honda CRV.

She said: “It floods quite often and most times when you drive past when it’s flooded, there’s a car stuck in it.”

Christy and her friends helped the Honda driver push the vehicle clear of the water, while an RAC tow truck came to the aid of the Aston Martin. While it is not known if the vehicle in the picture was genuine or a replica, Aston Martin DB5s are very rare with just 1,023 made and sell for as much as £300,000.

More rain was due to fall yesterday, with a further 5mm to 8mm expected this afternoon. The heaviest rain is expected in early tomorrow.

Met Office forecaster Emma Sharples said: “Even by 6am it will be across Oxfordshire and we are looking at another 10mm to 15mm.”

Last night 14 flood alerts were in place in Oxfordshire, the Environment Agency’s lowest level of alert. They include the rivers Cherwell, Thames, Thame, Ock, Evenlode, Ray and Windrush, the Ginge Brook, Clanfield Brook and Chalgrove Brook.

Maintenance work to culvert drains along the A34 in Oxfordshire starts today to reduce the risk of flooding. It is expected to take seven weeks and will include overnight lane closures.
