THE African drum workshops of the Oxford Rhythm Centre are making a big noise in Witney every week.

Kim Gajraj and Lukasz Lisak started teaching African drumming a year ago at The King’s School after returning from Senegal, where they spent an intense month learning the art from a drumming master.

Miss Gajraj, 24, is in her last year at Oxford University learning French and Spanish, but their business has grown and in January they will be starting a new beginners’ class in Witney.

She said: “Hitting a really big drum really energetically and making a lot of noise can be really relaxing at the end of a hard day.

“People like playing the djembe because they learn about music theory, but in a fun group atmosphere.

“These workshops are really popular and people keep coming back.”

As well as their regular Witney class and after-school clubs for children, the pair also offer one-off lessons, as executive team building exercises or just for parties.

At the moment, they teach about 100 people a week at the school in New Yatt Road but hope to start teaching more people in the new year.
