£1.6m spent to reduce RAF noise
11:00am Wednesday 14th November 2012 in Witney
CARTERTON: RAF Brize Norton has committed just under £1.6m to reduce noise levels at the air base.
Noise complaints have risen from 23 a year to 958 since Hercules aircraft were transferred to RAF Brize Norton from RAF Lyneham in Wiltshire last year.
Earlier this month the base issued a new apology.
Money has already been spent to bring in more staff and equipment to move planes to minimise noise, and testing near Black Bourton has been banned.
The RAF is also looking at how weather affects noise and is considering building enclosed testing facilities.
