Tales of ghostly goings-on at 'haunted' school

SPOOKY tales about ghosts roaming Henry Box School in Witney were told during an evening of storytelling.

The event aimed to encourage the 40 youngsters to enjoy storytelling and literature.

Bill Spectre, who runs ghost tours in Oxford, gave a reading of Bram Stoker’s The Judge’s House to pupils including Megan Berry, Immy Hill, Molly Mullins and Sophie Harlow.

They were also taken to the school’s library and told about the ghost of the founder’s wife Mary Box who, so the story goes, still roams the building.

Librarian Nicola Patrick said: “It was a huge success. I hope it will create lots of positive memories and some of the students are now really interested in story telling as an artform.”

Immy, 11, said: “I liked the Mary Box tale because it told you all about the history and that the library was haunted, and also the story-teller was great with his facial expressions and scary voices.

“At the end my friends and I told our own ghost stories.”

Immy said she was now more interested in English Literature because of Thursday event, adding: “It was a really engaging way of learning.”
