Resident looks back on happy life in county

A CARD from the Queen was at the centre of 100th birthday celebrations for Winifred Woodward.

Mrs Woodward was surrounded by family and friends on Wednesday for the celebration at Southern Down Care Home in Chipping Norton.

Born Winifred Hazell in Gloucestershire to parents Amy and Edward on October 24, 1912, Mrs Woodward grew up and attended school in Bloxham before moving to Hook Norton.

She worked in the fields for several years before becoming a full-time mum to her six children; Sidney, Barbara, Josie, Ellen, Denise and Graham.

Now she has 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Her husband Harold died in 2006, aged 96.

Mrs Woodward said: “I’ve had a very happy life with family all around me in Oxfordshire.

“Being 100 doesn’t feel any different, it’s just like any other birthday.

“I still feel young and people say I still look young too.”

As part of the celebrations, Chipping Norton deputy mayor Mike Tysoe presented Mrs Woodward with her card from the Queen.
