East Challow housing scheme set for approval despite objections

PLANS for 71 new homes in East Challow look set to go ahead despite opposition.

Housing developer Bewley Homes wants to build a mix of flats and houses on the Nadler industrial estate in East Challow, to include 28 homes with affordable housing status. The estate would include footpaths, parking areas and open space with play equipment.

A decision was set to be made by the Vale of White Horse District council last night. Planning officers have recommended approval but both Wantage and East Challow parish councils are opposed to the development on the grounds of traffic considerations and the pressure it would place on local amenities.

Good result for the owner of the site and the developer.

The village has a requirement for 25-35 new proporties to fulfil its housing quota/requirement so 70 units is overkill.

The former council depot up the other end of the village is surely unusuable now for residential development as the quota is more than fulfilled, unless planning recommendations etc change, so the public purse funds another white elephant.

LibDem Councillor Andrew Crawford on the Wantage Herald front cover describes this development .....as the best option. He points the political blame finger at the now Conservative led council.

Mr Crawford or the planning committee do not live in this village hence the NIMBY decision!
