ONE of Wantage’s best known businesses is the subject of a month-long exhibition at the Vale and Downland Museum.
Visitors can get an insight into packaging firm Crown Holdings, one of the town’s biggest employers, when doors open on tomorrow.
Based on old Grove airfield, Crown’s Innovation Centre attracts scientists and designers from all over the country and the exhibition reveals some of the processes involved in can manufacture through a series of images taken in company plants around the world.
Facts include how metal in a drinks can is as thin as the width of human hair, and that up to 2,400 cans are manufactured every minute on a production line.
Museum curator Ruth Howard said: “These extraordinary photographs show the beauty hidden within industrial processes. They also remind us that Wantage is not just a town with a history but is also playing its part in the developing future technologies.”
The exhibition runs at the museum in Church Street, Wantage, until March 27, from 10am to 4pm, Monday to Saturday.
