AS if Shakespeare wasn't convoluted enough, these school pupils are putting on a play about the confusing and interwoven love lives of a theatre company trying to stage one of the bard's great works.

Students at King Alfred's Academy in Wantage are this week staging their production of Cole Porter's classic musical Kiss me Kate.

The singalong story traces the tangled web woven by a troupe putting on Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew.

In the play, director Fred Graham (played here by King Alfred's student Leo Thrower) struggles with his leading lady Lilli Vanessi (played by Holly Barrett) who also happens to be his ex-wife.

Meanwhile fellow actress Lois Lane finds her boyfriend Bill getting into trouble with gangsters.

The King Alfred's crew are staging their show at the school's Centre Site on Portway tonight until Saturday, 7pm every night, with a matinee on the last day at 1.30pm.

Tickets £12 each for adults; £8 for students. Call Liz Horton via the Centre Site office on 012135 225700.
