CHOIR members who received 'exceptional' cancer treatment at Oxford's Churchill Hospital donated £580 from their latest production.
The Letcombe Singers presented a giant cheque with profits from their summer show, the Pirates of Penzance, to Dr Amanda Salisbury of the Radiotherapy Department.
The donation was handed over by choir chairman Celia Bungay in recognition of the care received by musical director Jane Robinson and front of house manager Anthony Bevan in 2017.
Mrs Robinson was diagnosed with an extremely rare skin cancer at Christmas last year, and Dr Salisbury, a singer herself, is her consultant at the Churchill Hospital.
The money was raised by the choir’s semi-staged performances of The Pirates of Penzance as part of this year’s Wantage Summer Festival.
Mrs Robinson was delighted to be well enough to conduct the concerts, having been forced to hand over the baton to her deputy, Gill Skidmore, for the earlier part of the year.
The group will stage their Christmas show for Christian Aid at Wantage Methodist Church, December 15, and Letcombe Regis Village Hall, December 19, both at 7pm.
For the concert, the singers will be joined by the talented local children’s choir Caritas and their musical director Sheenagh Dernie.
The programme will be a mixture of seasonal music and readings, some serious, some frivolous, some well-known and some brand new compositions and arrangements.
