AS medals pile up for Oxfordshire's athletes, attaché for the Togo Olympic team Stuart Weir says he is living the dream watching them do it in Rio.

The Cumnor man, who has travelled to Brazil with the African outfit to assist the country's team, said seeing Usain Bolt win his third consecutive 100m Olympic Gold was the highlight of his games so far.

The 66-year-old has also bumped into eight-time Olympic medalist Sir Bradley Wiggins, two-time gold tennis champion Andy Murray and also saw Novak Djokovic practice playing with coach Boris Becker.

Outside of his duties of organising the logistics of the five Togo athletes, Mr Weir has managed to witness many moments of history being made.

He added: "Being there for Bolt on Sunday night was unbelievable. It was amazing and a real privilege.

"The atmosphere is amazing, the experience is amazing. I've been able to speak to so many athletes.

"It's been quite hard to keep up with everything that has been going on in regards to the medals, but Great Britain is doing very well."

But despite the many highs, Mr Weir said it was disappointing to see some stadiums "only half full" for some events.

He said prices for tickets seemed to be "quite high", adding crowds for the initial rounds of the athletics were low compared to London 2012.

Mr Weir added: "We didn't quite get Super Saturday like in 2012, but that's life.

"As an experience, it's been unbeatable so far. Four of the Togo athletes have competed, but none got through their first rounds.

"We have one 200m runner to go [Kokoutse Fabrice Dabla] and I don't know yet but I would love him to go up against Bolt."

The 200m heats begin today at 3.50pm UK time.
