A BAFTA award-winning TV producer from Oxfordshire took his own life after a long history of depression, an inquest heard.

Father of three sons Julian Pullin, from Letcombe Regis, near Wantage, was found dead in his car on July 17 at Bents Pool in Standlake.

Assistant coroner for Oxfordshire, Rosamund Rhodes-Kemp, expressed her sympathies with Mr Pullin’s widow, Suzanne, before giving a verdict of suicide.

Mr Pullin was a producer and writer for shows such as Never Mind the Buzzcocks, 8 out of 10 Cats, Live at the Apollo and Have I Got News For You.

Ms Rhodes-Kemp said: “I’m sure this was a terrible shock.

“Julian Pullin was a well-known Bafta award-winning film producer with a history of depression.

“He left home on July 16 to drive to Bents Pool. He died of carbon monoxide poisoning and I am satisfied he intended to take his own life.”

The inquest heard that the night before 57-year-old Mr Pullin died he left the family home following an argument.

His wife became concerned when the next morning and reported his disappearance.

Mrs Pullin told police her husband enjoyed fishing at Heyford Lakes, so officers started searching in this area.

Officer Adrian Brooksbank, based in Witney, said in a statement he had seen Mr Pullin’s missing persons report and decided to check the lakes with a colleague.

Ms Rhodes-Kemp read from the statement: “ In the car they saw a man who appeared to be sleeping. They knocked on the window but there was no answer. They realised he was dead.”
