MEET the secondhand silver band built from bric-a-brac.

For the past 10 years, Regent Furniture and Books has donated all the proceeds from its little nick nacks stall to Wantage Silver Band to fund the purchase of quality instruments for junior players.

The money has paid for tubas, trumpets, cornets and bugles, and this month the sum raised by the shop reached the grand total of £10,000.

Deputy band master Danny Dullforce said: “We are very grateful for this wonderful donation. We now have an excellent supply of instruments for our beginners to use.”

The donation of the latest cheque is timely, as a new set of beginners is starting with the band this autumn.

But there is always room for new members.

Anyone interested in joining should contact bandmaster Eileen Sykes on 01235 767541 or visit wantageband.org.
