A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD who used his mum’s mobile to call for help when she collapsed at home was hailed a hero by paramedics.

Harvey-Joe Breakspear was at home in Wantage with mum Rachelle, his brothers Archie, five, Alfie, three, and nine-month-old sister Darcy-Beau when his mum fainted.

As soon as he realised something was wrong, Harvey-Joe headed straight for the phone to get his mum the help she needed.

Mrs Breakspear said: “The paramedics praised Harvey-Joe for acting quickly to get me the help I needed and told him he was a very brave little boy.

“Harvey tells everyone he saved mummy’s life, and he did do something truly amazing.

“I’m so incredibly proud of all of them, but especially Harvey for knowing not to give up and remaining calm while looking after his siblings.”

The family had just moved into a new home in Stockham Way and Mrs Breakspear was still unpacking boxes on Wednesday, August 26.

The 24-year-old said: “All of a sudden my left side went completely numb, my head went really heavy and the room started spinning.”

She fell on to the floor, unconscious. She found out later that the boys at first thought mummy was playing a game.

But Harvey-Joe realised his mum was not waking up so he got her phone to call for help.

The first person Harvey-Joe called was his dad Henry, a landscape gardener who was working in Grove that day.

But the seven-year-old was so calm on the phone that Mr Breakspear couldn’t believe there was a real emergency, and told his son he would call back to speak to his mum.

But Harvey-Joe realised the situation was more urgent, and kept trying: he phoned Mrs Breakspear’s sister Alex Heggie twice. When that did not work he called his dad’s sister Lucy Cornish, who lives nearby in Stockham.

He got through, and Mrs Cornish came straight over and called 999 .

When paramedics arrived minutes later Mrs Breakspear began regaining consciousness . She is now having tests at a stroke clinic.

A South Central Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We commend Harvey-Joe for realising that his mum was suffering a medical emergency and knowing to seek immediate help.”
